Why do you need to have your cambelt changed?

Well, the majority of petrol and diesel engines today have a toothed belt of a rubber/Kevlar composition. This keeps the critical timing between the crankshaft and the camshaft at all times.

When this relatively cheap item is neglected, major engine damage will be inflicted on the valves, possibly the pistons too, which could result in the total demise of the engine. Below is what a damaged engine looks like.
